Vera leggenda della musica R&B e soul, componente principale di due gruppi vocali femminili di discreto successo, prima di conquistare le platee come artista solista alla fine degli anni '70, influenzando una nuova generazione di cantanti femminili. È riconosciuta per la sua potenza vocale e il suo picco di estensione.
